How to wash your hair after hair transplant
After surgery, wash your hair with room temperature water (not warm or hot water) using a shower head. Use a mild shampoo, lather and gently apply on the transplanted hair without rubbing. Let the lather dissolve the dirt for about 5 minutes. After that, lather with water to rinse off the lather. For the wound on the back of the neck, wash in the same way, but you can rub gently. Do this until 1 week has passed. You should wash your hair every day, at least once a day.
After surgery, the wound area will have scabs and lymphatic fluid. If the scabs and lymphatic fluid are very hard, use pure oil, such as olive oil, before washing your hair. Leave it for about 10 minutes and the scabs will break off easily. When washed off, you can do this for both the transplanted wound and the wound on the back of the head.
Caution: Use a clean cloth to wipe the transplanted area. For the unplanted area, you can gently wipe it, being careful not to touch the transplanted graft. Use cool air to dry your head. You should dry your head as soon as possible. Do not let your head dry on its own, avoid using hot water and hot hair dryers, wash your hair every day for 1 month, and use the shampoo recommended by the hospital.
What to do after hair transplantation?
- Within the first 24 hours after surgery, do not pick, scratch or rub the hair transplant area. Do not expose it to sunlight, clean the wound, dab blood, wash your hair or let the hair transplant area get wet because the graft may fall off.
- After surgery, wear a head band for 24 hours before removing it.
- After hair transplantation surgery, you may feel soreness at the back of your head. You can lie down normally. Use a U-shaped pillow to support your neck to prevent pressure on the wound at the back of your head or use a rolled-up towel to support your neck instead. It is not recommended to sleep on your side or stomach because it will make your face swell in the following days.
- In the case of swelling in the head or eyelids after surgery, you can apply ice to your forehead, but do not apply ice to the head where the hair transplant was performed.
- You can resume your normal activities from the next day. Avoid activities that cause a lot of sweat, such as heavy exercise, saunas, and avoid dust and smoke and crowded areas.
- For hair styling products, you can start using them 1 week after surgery, but avoid direct contact with the wound. Try to use only the ends of the hair until the wound is no longer red (average 2 weeks).
- You can get a haircut at a barber shop as usual from 2 weeks onwards.
- Avoid drinking tea, coffee, and carbonated drinks for at least 1-3 days.
- Avoid spicy foods and dietary supplements for at least 2 weeks.
- If you are taking vitamins, please refrain from doing so 7 days in advance.
- Avoid smoking and alcoholic beverages for 7 days.
- Avoid pickled foods, seafood, and raw fish for 1 month.
- Avoid playing sports and exercising, and swimming (do not get in the pool or seawater) for 1 month.
- After hair transplantation, the doctor will recommend that you refrain from exercising, swimming, and saunas for 1 month.
- Avoid using heat on your hair and scalp for at least 1 month.
- Try to avoid heat from sunlight and sweat during the period after the transplantation until 1 month.
- As for chemical treatments and hair dyeing, please refrain until 1 year has passed.
Note: In the first 1-3 months, hair will gradually fall out, and in the next 4-6 months, it will gradually grow back. After that, hair will grow back fully in 8-12 months. Take care of by a team of experienced doctors
